INSTRUCTION FOR AUTHORS
Journal of the Department of Pedagogy publishes original research and review papers on pedagogical topics. The goal is to provide access to research on current issues in the field of upbringing and education to a multidisciplinary, national and international readership.
Publishing charges
There are no charges for publishing manuscripts in the Journal of the Department of Pedagogy.
Manuscript originality
By submitting the manuscript, the author guarantees that the research has not already been published or offered for publication in another publication, and that it has been prepared in accordance with these instructions. The corresponding author guarantees that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and consented to its submission for publication. All submitted manuscripts undergo a plagiarism check procedure.
Manuscript submission
Manuscripts are submitted exclusively in electronic form via the journal's website https://zop.ff.uns.ac.rs/index.php/zop/submissions, with mandatory prior registration of new authors. When submitting the manuscript, it is necessary:
- submit a title page with information about one or more authors. Further down in the instructions you can find the instructions on how the front page should look;
- submit the manuscript without any details about the authors. This file should contain the title of the paper, abstract, text of the paper with tables, illustrations and references;
- enter metadata: title of the manuscript in Serbian and English, all authors, language of the manuscript, supporting institutions (if the research was conducted within a research project), both in Serbian and in English language.
Language of the manuscript
Manuscripts are submitted and published in Serbian or English language. Authors are responsible for the proofreading of their manuscripts, regardless of the used language. It is recommended that authors use Word proofing tools for the Serbian Latin language or for English language, depending on the language of the manuscript.
Review process
The editors initially assess the suitability of the manuscript for the journal. All suitable manuscripts are reviewed anonymously by at least two competent and independent reviewers. If the two reviews contradict each other, in most cases, the expert opinion of a third reviewer will be required. The journal uses a double-blind peer review process, which means that the identity of both the author and reviewer is kept hidden. The anonymity of the manuscript is ensured by:
- separately submitting the title page and the manuscript without information about the authors.
- referring to one's own references in the third person. For example, "Marković and Petrović (2017) indicated that" instead of "In our previous work (Marković and Petrović, 2017) we indicated that".
- carefully naming the file so as not to see its creator (npr., File > Check for Issues > Inspect Document > Document Properties and Personal Information > Inspect > Remove All > Close).
After the reviewing process, the editorial board makes a final decision on the manuscript, which can be one of the following: acceptance for publishing, acceptance with corrections or rejection of the manuscript. All authors receive information about the decision of the editors, whereby authors whose manuscripts are rejected and authors whose manuscripts are returned for revision get to see the reviews. If the author resubmits the corrected manuscript, he is obliged to describe in a separate document all the changes he has made in the text, as well as to clearly mark the corrections made in the text of the manuscript in accordance with the remarks and recommendations of the reviewers.
Text formatting
Texts are written in the Microsoft Word program, on an A4 page, in Times New Roman (12 point) or Georgia (11 point) font, Latin, with spacing of 1.5, with margins of 2.54 cm. All pages of the paper must be numbered, with serial numbers given in the upper right corner of the page.
Length of the manuscript
The paper should be up to 30,000 characters long, with spaces. The abstract and the list of references are not included in the scope of the paper. Review papers can be up to 40,000 characters long including spaces. The editors reserve the right to enable the publication of longer manuscripts if it is deemed justified.
Manuscript structure
Title page
The title of the manuscript should be concise, but also formulated precisely enough. The title is written centered and in bold letters. If the paper was created as part of a scientific research project, basic information about the project should be shown in the footnote after the title of the paper. The name(s) of the author(s) are listed below the title of the paper. If there are two authors, an "&" is written between their names, and if there are more than two authors, their names are separated by a comma. The next line lists the author's affiliations and countries (only for author(s) from abroad). If the authors have different affiliations, it is necessary to use exponential numbers to associate the author's name with the corresponding affiliation. After the name of the corresponding author a footnote with an email address and affiliation should be provided. Authors are encouraged to include their ORCID numbers.
Abstract
The abstract should be written in Times New Roman (size 12) or Georgia (size 11), spacing 1.5 and should be 150 to 200 words long. At the end of the abstract, three to five keywords should be given in the language of the paper. If the paper is written in Serbian language, it is necessary to attach the title, abstract and keywords in English as well.
If it is a paper presenting empirical research, the abstract should contain the following elements: significance of the research problem, research goal or research questions, research method, key results, conclusions and pedagogical implications. In the case of review papers, the abstract should contain: the problem that is considered in the paper, a description of the structure of the paper, key explanations given in the text and conclusions.
Structure of the manuscript
All papers should have an introduction and a conclusion. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, the papers representing the performed research should have the following sections: theoretical foundations (conceptual framework), method, research results and discussion (with implications).
The structure of review papers and papers representing theoretical analyzes should be harmonized with the main topic of the paper.
Titles and subtitles
Section headings are written in bold, capital letter, font size 12, indented to the left. e.g:
Method
Headings of the second level (subheadings) in the text are written in bold letters, italics, aligned to the left. e.g:
Instruments
References
References used should be cited in accordance with the Seventh edition of American Psychological Association standards manual. All references in the Serbian language in the list of references at the end of the paper and in parentheses in the text of the paper are given in Latin, regardless of the type of script in which the used sources are printed. Surnames of foreign authors are cited in the text either in the original form or in the Serbian transcription – by phonetically writing the surname. If it is transcribed, the last name of the author in the original must be written in parentheses, for example: Dewey (Dewey, 1997). In the case of using translations of foreign references, only the translated bibliographic elements are listed, for example: Žiru (Žiru, 2013).
The used sources are cited within the text by including the elements (author's last name, year of publication and page number if it is a quote) in parentheses and separated by a comma and a colon. Citing multiple references in parentheses should be arranged alphabetically, not chronologically, for example: (Bodroški, 2011; Jones, 2009; Pantić & Wubbels, 2010).
If the reference has two authors, both are listed in the text, for example: (Hattie & Timperley, 2007). If the reference is in the Serbian language, the letter "i" is used instead of the "&" sign. If the source has 3 or more authors, only the last name of the first author is mentioned in the first citation and the abbreviation "et al." for foreign references, i.e. „i sar.“ for domestic references.
If two papers from the same year with three or more authors have the same first author, and the others are different, you should write as many authors' names as necessary so that those references can be clearly distinguished in the text. For example, the references (Leithwood, Patten, Harris, & Jantzi, 2010) and (Leithwood, Harris, Jantzi, & Strauss, 2010) have the same first author and the same year of publication. In this case, they would be cited in the text as (Leithwood, Patten, et al., 2010) and (Leithwood, Harris, et al., 2010). If several references have the same author (or two authors) and year of publication, a lowercase letter should be added after the year. For example, (Jones & Robertson, 2018a) and (Jones & Robertson, 2018b).
The list of references should include exclusively the sources cited in the manuscript. The list of references given at the end of the paper needn’t be numbered.

Reference software
Authors are encouraged to use available and free programs that automatically format references, such as Zotero. When using these programs, it is necessary to choose the appropriate style required by the Journal.
Tables and graphs
Tables should be created in Microsoft Word. Graphics and illustrations can be in JPEG or PNG format. The same results should not be presented both in tables and in graphics. If the paper contains images, they should be displayed with a resolution of at least 300 dpi.
Each table should be marked with a number and an adequate name. The text in the table can be written with 1.5 or 1.0 spacing, depending on the scope and content of the table. The table number should be written in standard letters, and the name of the table should be written in the next line. The number and name of the table are located above the table, aligned to the left. Tables must not contain vertical lines. Table rows should not be separated by horizontal lines, but the table header must be separated from other rows with a horizontal line. The values in the table should be given in the middle of the field. All abbreviations mentioned in the tables and graphs should be explained using the legend (note) given below the table or graph.

Results of statistical data processing
The results of statistical analyzes should be given in the following form: β = .59, p < .001 ili χ2 (12) = 25.00, p = .013. Use two or three decimal places to state the exact p value (for example, p = .036). However, if the p value is less than .001, then it is reported as p < .001. If the number theoretically cannot be greater than 1 (for example, correlation coefficient or standardized regression coefficient), zero is not written before the period. As a rule, statistical symbols should be written in italics (M, SD, t, F). Exceptions are the letters of the Greek alphabet that are not written in italics (for example α, β).
Footnotes and abbreviations
Footnotes and abbreviations should be avoided. If footnotes are used, they should only contain commentary, not information about the sources used.
